I have been searching etsy and the web (with some prompting from my partner in crime) for….clothes. Yep, I said it. Now, I’m not a fashion princess and I can’t stand spending the money on clothes sometimes. But I can use a sewing machine and have found some great resale shops so I go to my computer now for inspiration. I don’t buy a lot because a) I don’t always have occassion to wear some of the things I love (I’m a working mother with 3-5 kids in the house on any given evening and I live in Cleveland – see “What happened to punk in Cleveland?” over on UnderCulture Unlimited) and b) did I mention the money issue? And sometimes, I just don’t quite have the skill on my machine yet to knock it out myself.
This morning, I found two very different but very cool shops.
Priscilla Dawn Cute, fun, retro-style dresses for feeling girlie. I love this one, and another lime green one she has listed. Since their handmade, and many custom, expect less-than-bargain prices – and that’s not a bad thing. Hand-crafted items like this will be one-of-a-kind and much different than off-the-rack quality.
Smarmy Clothes Totally different feel than the first shop, this one has a lot of variety and a little more rough and edgy style. I found this dress, which I love, among many others. The custom hoodie below is also a great example of her style. There’s accessories, panties, and a lot more. I can see so many of these pieces in my closet. Again, expect custom/handmade prices.
